At approximately 1/8" thick, this material is lightweight and ideal for designs where layering and lightness matter more than depth.
Standard veneer options:
Walnut
Cherry
Maple
Why we use this material:
Consistent thickness and flatness

Predictable results for repeat designs

Eco Wood and Eco Color (Smokey Hill Designs)
Veneer sheets with an MDF core, similar to the Eco Clear Coat above, but with either a faux wood-grain look or a solid color printed on the veneer.
Eco Wood — Faux wood-grain finishes like EcoBirch, EcoCherry, EcoWalnut, EcoMahogany, EcoDriftwood, EcoFarmhouse, EcoGrayWash, EcoWhiteWash, and more
Eco Color — Solid colors from bold tones like EcoNavy, EcoMaroon, and EcoTeal to softer options like EcoPastelPurple and EcoSage
Any option available in 1/8" thickness will work. You do not need to worry about sheet size — we handle that.

Patterned Acrylic (Smokey Hill Designs)
Transparent sheets with a printed design. When light passes through, the pattern comes to life — think of it like a stained glass window.
Flex acrylic — A thin, flexible sheet used in reversible suncatchers, reversible rosette suncatchers, and square suncatchers
1/8" rigid acrylic — A stiff, solid sheet used as the backing on non-reversible suncatchers, non-reversible rosette suncatchers, double layer suncatchers, premium layered hardwood suncatchers, and lantern panels
You do not need to worry about which type — we select it based on your product. Both types are available in the same patterns.

Smokey Hill offers numerous patterns to match ribbon colors. For an easier way to browse, visit our Curated Acrylic Patterns page where we have organized the patterns we use most by color family so you can find options that match your ribbon colors without sorting through hundreds of choices.
Patterns to avoid: Do not choose directional patterns or scene patterns. Directional patterns have a clear "up" and "down" — landscapes, text, or designs that only look right one way. Scene patterns show a specific image meant to be viewed at a certain size. These do not work with our products because of how the material is cut — directional patterns end up flipped on some pieces, and scenes do not fit the shapes we cut. Abstract, repeating, and all-direction patterns work great — florals, geometric designs, watercolors, swirls, and kaleidoscope-style patterns.
Used for:
Reversible Suncatchers
Non-Reversible Suncatchers
Rosette Suncatchers
Double Layer Suncatchers
Premium Layered Hardwood Suncatchers
Square Suncatchers
Standard Hardwood Lanterns
Acrylic Panel Lanterns
Layered Hardwood Lanterns
Materials We Handle
Some materials are standard and do not require a choice from you:
Baltic birch plywood — Used for suncatcher frames unless you upgrade to Eco Clear Coat or choose Eco Wood/Color
Acrylic type and thickness — We select the right one based on your product
Finish — Hardwood items we mill ourselves are finished with a UV-cured clear coat for protection.
Hardware — Hanging hardware, light cords, and other components are included
Material Availability

Acrylic patterns: The number of patterns available to choose from depends on the size of your order and the quantity of items. Larger orders allow more flexibility to mix and match patterns. For single item or small quantity orders, pattern choices are based on what we currently have in stock — we are happy to share what is available when you are ready to choose.
